My initial issue dealt with "ATX form motherboards and shut down issues" that eventually led to a Win2k issue. In the spirit of assisting one another, several forum members put forth their effort and knowledge to assist me. I greatly apprciate the help and faith I...
I don't seem to have the APM option in Power Options under Control Panel, but I have the setting in my BIOS. I've also learned from other sources that the APCI "must" be turned on in BIOS BEFORE you install Win2k O/S otherwise Win2k install does not load the necessary drivers.
That...
I have a clone PC with ATX form motherboard and an AMD processor.
I recently upgraded the hard drive from Win 98se to Win 2000 and now the PC does not power down when I go through the Shut Down procedure. When the message comes up, "It's now safe to shut down your computer" I must...
I've checked and the chipset is Motorola. Info I've gathered indicates Motorola got out of the modem business and that includes dismantling their modem webpage so, no drivers are available.
I checked several places like Drivers.com and I'm not sure what they suggest I try. Anyone have any...
Thanks, Panosophic...
I've had the winmodem out of the PC, but didn't pay much attention to the chip/name. Gawd only knows, but NO ONE puts there name on a modem (...USR will occasionally) :-)
I'll see if the chip gives me a good clue for a driver...I'm afraid my user will NOT know how to...
A neighbor lost her hard drive last week and we bought a new one, upgrading her operating system from Win98se to Win2000. The problem is she has a 56k winmodem that will not work nor detect any software (drivers) from the W2k CD.
I recall from my old modem days what a hassle the winmodems were...
ggriffit,
This did the trick, but let me explain why I had trouble with this in the past (for others who may have this same issue bothering them.)
In Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types I did not find the name "Mail To" as I expected. The name is MAPIMail and MAPISend on...
I run Win 2000 and Eudora 5.2 along with Netscape 7.1 on my PC. Often as I browse (using both IE6 and NS 7.1) I may see a photo or screenshot and want to e-mail the graphic to someone. I right click and select the "send to" option...
Netscape mail (Compose) opens instead of Eudora...
Sorta' late with this reply, but good information is always welcome, correct? I use a program called ClipMate 6 (www.thornsoft.com) that is used for Copy/Paste functions and stores thousands of "Copies" that you make for later use. One of the great "PLUS" features is the...
Yes, IE 6 works fine. My daughter uses a dialup account for her access to the Net and no, I didn't attempt using an IP address. No webpages can be pulled up....I tried CNN, Yahoo and Annoyances.com.

My daughter runs Win 98se on a Dell Latitude CPi laptop. She attempted to install Netscape 7.0 and upgrade to 7.1, but each time she runs the program, she gets a message saying, "Cannot find www.yahoo.com" or similar message for any other web page. Netscape cannot find any URL...
I bought the McAfee Viruscan 8.0 Professional two weeks ago and installed the program. AFter some unusual glitches in getting the software installed, I found I did not get an auto upgrade to a current DAT file...mine was dated 9-24-2003 and sadly out of date.
I learned from chat tech support...
How simple! Surprised I didn't think to do the obvious.
I tried to right-click and delete, but that didn't show any response...hovering over the incorrect entry allowed me to press the delete key and do the job!! Thanks again.

I'm running Win2k, using Internet Explorer 6.0 and Netscape 7.1 alternately. Often when registering on a web site, they require an e-mail address. When you begin completing the e-mail info, a "drop down" menu will show choices that you previously submitted.
How can you...
For some time, since running Win 2000 on one of my systems at my home office, RegClean does not work properly.
Each time RegClean is run, it will "fix errors." I can run it 10 times or 20 times and it continues to "fix errors."
Has anyone run into this problem before? I...
The simple way to force your Windows O/S to detect a hardware device would be to use Device Manager. Remove the device (modem) and tell XP to find it again.
First, I would shut down, remove the device and boot the system. Shut down again and re-install the modem. Boot up to see what happens...
Thanks to one and all...all of the replies were of great value and, like the proverbial sledgehammer, drove the point home.
I should have been able to figure this out, but that's what you guys are for..."help" when it's needed. Sometimes we can't see the forest for all the trees...
I'm using Win 2000 and Eudora 5.2 with an Earthlink Satellite connection from Direcway. I've setup a POP3 account using a local ISP in Dallas, Texas to reach my earthlink satellite connection at my other home near Tyler, Texas. My attempts to "send" email have failed. My POP3 is setup...
