I have reloaded several G1 DL servers (mostly DL360's and ML350's), and my approach is a little different.
1. Erase the system
2. Boot the SS 5.5 CD, create the Array (in my case it's always RAID1)
3. Power server off
4. Insert Bootable Windows 2003 Server CD
5. Install Windows 2003 Server...
I have had 2 machines recently that have had date\time changes after a reboot of the OS. The operating system in WEPOS (stipped down XP).
What I am seeing is an eventlog entry for the Event log service being shut down (time is correct), then the next entry for Eventlog (multiprocessor free...
We are going to be installing a Director server to support more than 2500 POS devices. We are debating Windows 2003 culster vs Linux cluster. Backend DB will be Oracle, Cost for the OS is not really a consideration as either way we have to pay for support on the OS and the costs are fairly...
Ok, so I found out my problem... I had to add my user (or in this case the AD Group) to the Distributed Com Object group on the SMS server. It makes total sense, but without any benefit of classes or admin guides (yes, I am installing and configuring this blind) it just did not register that I...
We have an issue that has us stumped. If I set up a stand alone windows XP PC, with a user who has no admin priveleges, I can get a SMS Admin console to connect to the Site server with no issues.
If I attemp the same thing on a Windows 2003 Terminal server, I get a connection fails. If I add...
Thanks for all the feedback. We ended up purchasing a DS8300, and so far so good. We had some rough times with the initial load, but since then things seem to be going pretty well.
In our case though, we purchased the 8000 for 1 reason...
1. The ability to attach iSeries and Open Systems...
We are looking at purchasing a DS8300 with 1 expansion frame, and attaching Windows, AIX and VMWare servers to it. I'm looking for some real world experiences with it. Our IBM rep has been slow getting the reference calls for us, and the ones we have had are either Mainframe or AIX only shops...
Does anyone here have a DS8100 or DS8300? We are currently looking to purchase one which will start with Open Systems servers attached to it, then add our iSeries server to it over time.
Looking for some input. We are currently an HP EVA5000 shop, but looking at the DS8300 as a new disk array due to growth. I have a couple of questions for anyone who may have a DS8000 series Disk Array.
1. How is data spead out on the disks in the DS8300?
In our EVA, a "vDisk" presented...
Thanks for all the feedback. We have at this point won our battle of not bringing Dell in, and sticking with the Compaq/HP servers as our standard.
We have a couple of Dells now and will see how they hold up.
Thanks for the advice Marvin, the uppper mgt is going to stick with HP/Compaq, so we won our case. I have heard that support was not as good with Dell yet as Compaq is now. We were looking to roll-in Dell's slowly, as Compaq's were retired...a 2 man crew with a full workload already would in...
I work for a company that has had Compaq (then HP/Compaq) servers for at least the past 5 years.
Now we are asked to look into Dell servers. Has anyone gone from an HP/Compaq shop to a Dell shop? What kind of issues did you run into, and how easy was the conversion.
Another side of this is...
This may not be the right place to start this, but I am in need of some help with an Application specific oracle database. The software is G-Log and when I apply their patch for December, it appears to run with no errors, but it is still reported with the previous release being installed.
I...
I used a program from systernals called TDImon and it helped to track down a few pc's that were infected still with the nachi virus. I left 1 pc on my desk, unpatched and very well virus proteted (scanned the winnt dir every 15 minutes and checked for new updates every 30 minutes. It might...
On the same note as the c$ share, I have had a client that had security issues that lead back to the Local Administrator password left blank, and terminal services installed. The remote desktop client is a free download from microsoft, and can easily be used to then to remote control the server...
Having taken the 210, and 215, they hit on Remote Installation Services pretty hard. It would be very beneficial to know that part of it. I've had a couple of people tell me to take the 218, as I should be ready for it but I don't do well on "paper" tests. Give me the actual...
I would also verify that the Everyone group does not have permissions to the c$ share. On a windows 2000 server, by default, everyone does. Once he has access to that he could access any sub folders.
You can also download the Remote Desktops software found on XP from Microsoft and install that on any pc as well from 9x to Win2k. I have tested that this works just fine on a 95 pc.
You can also remote manage another pc/server if you have rights to it by opening the Computer Management on...
We have a similar situation where we have over 1000 subnets as well. I tried using the subnet mask, but that did not work well. That I did was something similar to this...
Domain A
192.10.1.0 - 192.10.254.254
Domain B
192.11.1.0 - 192.11.254.254
From this I filtered down the groups a little...
I recieved a reply from Cambex. Hot swapping is supported using smit, but cfgmgr can not recognize the card until the LPAR is restarted. This was a much better response than the documentation said of having to shut down the server.
