My customer is creating the (EDI830 & EDI820) flat file manually, then running my interface program which

Hello,
Do you have PC's connected to the OpenVMS servers?
If you do, just connect over to the PC and log into the
VMS server (SmartTerm, Reflections...).
Pathworks v5 is quite old.
Have you considered upgrading?
Try $ADMIN SHOW EVENTS, and check for anything
unusual around the time of the error.
Also check the log files in PWRK$LOGS and PWRK$LMLOGS.
Do any of your customers have label formats you could

Many companies have their own "standard" serialized shipping container labeling requirements.
I remember Sear's and Ace Hardware had unusual requirements.
Most labeling packages provide "standard" formats you can

JDFrench,
If you run the backup daily, you still may
want to look at running it in batch and automatically
resubmit itself when complete.

If successful, backup the disk copy to tape.
Such as:
$! backup to disk

$!
$ If $SEVERITY .eq. 1 then goto TOTAPE !1=SUCCESS, 0=WARNING...

Try the HELP again:

Does your backup command look something like...
What is the file name and location?

In each text box add code to check for data with the correct
length. If data exists, call a routine which checks all
5 text fields for data with the correct the correct

Do the barcode fields have a prefix (ie AIGA)?
EXAMPLE of 3 text boxes with a length of 12,

Try logging in as SYSTEM with passwd MANAGER or, if that does not work, try FIELD with passwd SERVICE .. this might work (these are supposed to be undocumented outside DEC, but you know how things can slip :)
If that does not work...
What you need to do is do a...
Do you have a computerized job/production reporting now?
Do you print jobs sheets?
"It will also interface with our inventory if not directly incorporated into it."
What is your inventory system software and hardware?
What package or language?
Do you have the source programs and file layouts?
