Anyway I realized after looking into it myself that services are not user dependent. I have nearly always been the sole user so I didn't know that they were so limited.
I did look into turning off the services bit. I did see how to do a 'clean boot' and restore to the...
This could probably apply to any OS, but this machine uses XP. I have an answering machine program on my computer that is having issues. It's worked fine for a long time, but now is having trouble. It stops answering or announcing the calls. I've checked the hardware and can find no problems...
I have two Ethernet ports on my computer. Got a new motherboard and same setup. I used to bridge the connections, so that I could connect to the internet and connect my PC desktop to a linux-based multimedia (mostly video) box. It worked. But I was having troubles resetting it up (connecting...
Well, the Memtest program was the one I had used. It was in my archive. I forgot that it ran from CD! Worked well - at least I think. Strange thing is I ran it twice, and now no BSOD - and no bad memory found. I did tighten things and clean a bit but not extensively. Not sure if simply...
I'm having BSOD issues and suspect bad memory on an XP machine. It's not that old - but getting there. Which program is best to test my RAM. I know I had a program that did this but can't find it. It may be that it was so long ago it was lost in upgrades.
Fixed it. Wasn't the modem or XP. It was the serial port - was dirty and had a sort of plastic bit loose. Took the computer panels off, cleaned it, pushed the loose part back in place. Got another modem in the mean-time (free from a back-room storage of a company I used to work for - they...
I tried to reinstall my modem today and am getting nowhere. I goto the Phone and Modem section of the Control panel. Choose add a modem. Click that I will chose it myself. Choose Have Disk. Browse to the ACFSerSK.INF file. Click OK. Nothing shows up.
So I installed a standard modem (in...
I think I've talked myself out of getting a new SSD for this system - with your help here! This system has been going for a few years - well nearly 6 now - and doing just fine. Without the performance improvement of an SSD - especially the quick Shut down and Startup - loading ability - and...
I looked into hacking the registry - and it doesn't sound that hard - along with installing an ACHI driver, but it seems like my motherboard will not support it anyway - from what I can tell. RAID is supported which can use ACHI commands, but I don't think switching to this will be possible or...
I looked into putting a new SSD into my system - which is XP. I want to eventually put the system on it. But I get really divergent info about whether this is even possible.
I've done this a few times - That is a new hard drive install and migrate my old system drive to a new drive. It's...
I am trying to configure an extension in Opera (uses Chrome engine now) to open a file. It's options are "Executable absolute path" and "Executable parameters" but no explanation as to what to enter. I am assuming that the path is the path to Acrobat - like c:/programs/acrobat.exe. But that...
I know that will work. But I did not want to be behind the router - too many settings to make for all my internet apps.
I did find that the hub is the problem as it only allows 'one-at-a-time' traffic. So I guess I would need a switch.
Any suggestions?
I have my Cable modem hooked up to a hub - an old Netgear EN104 (old but not very much used before now). From that one Ethernet cable goes into my computer and is my main Internet connection.
The other Ethernet cable goes to a wireless router and provides wireless around the house and...
Oh, Jock - you need to put in an Open command.
It works fine. I can connect this way to other ftp sites. It's definitely a problem with Windows!
Just don't know where the problem is or where to look.
the first suggestion - ftp through command line. What was presented is not enough - it won't work without more commands. But I run a batch file that FTP's and puts things on my web server. Same process - and it works.
I can also FTP through my applications, and FTP client.
It's only Windows...
Nope. I said in the original that I tried that. "When I try to enter it in the address box, it goes right to IE and I enter the password, but I can't open it in a Exporer page - I get "This FTP site cannot be viewed in Windows Explorer""
That is when I either choose View - or Page in IE and...
I used to be able to create a network place for FTP sites - convenient for quick file downloads and uploads with my clients.
Now they won't work. I think some settings were changed, but as far as I can tell, it's all the same. I did not change anything.
When I add my FTP site - ftp://(my...
I had these problems and it was malware. Try using Malwarebytes to test. It was difficult to remove, but afterward google worked just fine. I think the malware loaded, but the popups that would have alerted me to use bogus protection software were disabled.
That's closer - I still get the error, but now the error has this in the address: "/ /", that is slash, space, slash.
There may be some other way to go 'up' directories, but I don't know that either....
Incidentally I can get to the FTP using the command prompt without any problems as well. It...
I have a weird problem.
I try to connect to my webserver - and I have it down with my application - Golive. Although it's always a problem when I have to reload the software and re-do the FTP settings. The Web host guy is never very helpful - he just does not seem to communicate very well...
