Migrate Solaris NIS server to Linux NIS server

Yeah thats what i meant, I hope it's straight forward for you :) The "authentication" in NIS+ was awful where each object had an owner that needed to be changed to the new server (which was hard if the master server had died, because you had to change the ownership on the master) and changing...

Migrate Solaris NIS server to Linux NIS server

I know that with NIS+ that is what happened, when I stopped and restarted the nisplusd the data got pushed and I could watch the traffic flowing between the servers ... My guess is that change a slave to a master in NIS is going to be a lot easier than in NIS+ ... I hope so :)

Migrate Solaris NIS server to Linux NIS server

I dealt with NIS+, and we moved that to OpenLDAP ... but stayed on Solaris ... I'm not sure if any of my experience will help you, but if it does do feel free to ask.

configure sendmail to accept all mails from specified host

you need to set up accessdb and add the ip's of your remote servers into the list as "OK" so that you will receive the files, but only if they're for you (if you want to get all mail which may be sent on, you will have to specify "RELAY". Can you not get them to fix their open relay system...

using sendmail from the command line to send embedded images

have you looked at a program called "mpack" ... which mime-encodes files to be sent to mail clients ... you can then send this file to sendmail.

How to send all mail to files instead of relaying

let me get this straight ... you want to archive all the files, but not send them? is that right? if that is so modify your sendmail startup script so that it doesn't have '-q15m' or '-q' anything in it's arguments. this will stop sendmail from actually delivering the mail, and cause it to...

Need Proxy software that will proxy non-http traffic

delegate (http://www.delegate.org/) is a very simple proxy, it does most things (including socks) but is controlled by command line arguments Sounds like what you really want though is a VPN (Virtual private network) ... to connect to another possible site ... you could try looking at OpenVPN...

    using sendmail through apache2

do you have a smarthost (DS) defined in your sendmail.cf file? If you can send email via sendmail, then it looks like there might well be a problem with your PHP scripts.

    metadb question

We've used metadb ... I have to say i have never completely trusted it since it took out one of our machines ... the I/O controller died and we never could boot the machine again, even if we could get the data back. We've never had the same trouble with ZFS mirrored disks, we really have tried...

solaris 10 Format command wont see my external hard drives

If the devices appear under 'rmformat', you could try using the 'format -e' command Sometimes it's best to work with volume management turned off: '/etc/init.d/volmgt stop' or svcadm disable volfs (of which /etc/init.d script is a wrapper)

    Remote replication

Whether or not it's relevent to you I don't know ... but if you are looking to create a cluster of sorts GlusterFS has recently come to my attention. http://www.gluster.org/docs/index.php/GlusterFS_Features It's under a GPLv3 license, but apparently runs on pretty much any system and pretty...

Migration from MS Exchange to Sendmail

you could use sendmail and combine it with an IMAP daemon.

    email forwarding

you could try using "mailertable" to set from one to the other ... then you wouldn't have to work with the m4 files by hand. If it is for specific users then you could use the 'virtuser' table instead. Jon

    Remote replication

What system is it running? Oracle has "Standby database" mode ... other databases use similar. running rsync every 15 minutes might be all you need, unless you need it to be a complete fail over, or load balancing system. Is this just Data storage, or is there a specific Application that you...

have you looked at 'rsync' ? Comes on the companion DVD in Solaris 10, and is installed by default in OpenSolaris.

    LDAP connection issue

Hmm ... OK I'll update this thread in case some other poor slob has this problem. We had issues with IMAP on some of our Solaris 10 u6 server (even though it has all the LDAP patches) and not on others ... the difference between the 2 servers was that we had stopped the name service cache...
