By "bonding" do you mean "trunking"? If so, check out this document http://docs.sun.com/db?p=coll/887.1
I've never set it up myself, but I've heard that it can be useful. I do know that the switch that your machine connects to has to be able to support trunking ports as...
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with dual attaching an A5X00 to two Sun servers (E450's in this case). I need give each 450 the ability to see the same disks as they may be clustered together in the future. Does anyone know if this is possible without cluster software...
You can probably get the HD information that you need with the "format" command. As user root, type "format" and you will see the hard disks attached to the system then select the one you wish to view. Type "current" and you should get the info you are looking...
Ken's suggestion of docs.sun.com is a good one. THe best Solaris book, outside of the Sys Admin 1 and 2 class texts is this: http://www.sun.com/books/catalog/Winsor2/index.html
I second the welcome to Solaris!
A few more Solaris commands that may be helpful are:
prtdiag - usually in /usr/platform/`uname -i`/sbin. Use this with the -v option to get some quick and valuable info about the system
pkginfo - lists all of the installed software packages
showrev -p - lists...
I am not very familiar with FreeBSD, but I believe that it uses UFS file systems. If that is the case, UFS defragments as it goes, or "on the fly". This is one of the reasons why it is almost impossible to revover a deleted file in a UNIX environment. As soon as a block is freed, it...
The way I have done it in the past is to partition the new disk exactly like the current one, newfs the newly created partitions on the new disk, bring the system down to single user mode and copy all of the data over one file system at a time. To make the new disk bootable, you will need to...
Ahhhhhh... That sounds like good advice. As for symbols, is there any way to export only symbols or "pieces" of a movie as .swf? Let's say that I make a movie using many buttons or other objects, and later decide that I'd like to export them to a web page. Is there a way to save...
Let me start off by saying that I am REALLY new to Flash, and am still struggling with the basics! Here is my problem:
I made a button in Flash 5 and converted it to a symbol....I think ;-) The button works fine and I was able to get some simple action script to make it function, but I'm...

Click on the "Online Documentation" button. They have almost all of the manuals in PDF format for most versions of Volume Manager.

Mike's makes a good point. One way to quickly get rid of user's processes that are "hanging out" in a file system that you are trying to unmount is the fuser command:
fuser -c /filesystem --> reports the processes running in the file system
fuser -ck /filesystem --> reports and...
This may not be the best way, but could you just do something like this?:
cat file1 > file2
cp /dev/null file1
The first command should write out all of the contents of file1 (assuming it's not a binary) to file2. The second command will just "zero" out file1 without removing it...
I am not 100% sure about this, but I think that without arguments, the fsck utility expects to see a UFS file system. Also, fsck needs the physical disk names and not the directory name Try something like this instead:
fsck -F vxfs /dev/rdsk/c?t?d?s?
You will need to supply the correct...
Sorry if this has been asked before, but does anyone know of a good reference that discusses the correct way to add EMC disks to a Solaris 2.x box? Our situation is this:
We have a Symmetrix that is fibre attached (connectrix) to a number of our Solaris 2.6 and 2.7 servers. It seems that...
...PINE, which can be downloaded from http://www.sunfreeware.com (if you're running Solaris), but can also be found for just about any other *NIX.
Another solution could be to use the uuencode utility to "encode" your attachment as text and send it as the body of your message. The...
Does anyone know of a way to find the "history" of a given printer / print queue? We have a Solaris 6 server that serves about 68 printers. What we need to find out is how many print jobs are sent to each printer of a given period of time. We are trying to determine which printers...
How are you attempting to boot from the cdrom? If not already doing so, try typing boot cdrom - install from the ok prompt. If the cdrom is attached and the OS cd is good, the system will boot and the installation program should start.
For the future......
If you have just installed the new...
