Good for you! I would build with SAS if I had the option. I know you've already bought SATA HDDs but next go round try SAS. More expensive, but built like tanks with insane MTBF numbers.
Moving data arrays is pretty easy, they will recover from clone or backup quite well. Just use a spare...
Another thought...powerline networking has come into its own lately and has better throughput than wireless, and is more secure.

When I say "power user" I think I mean anyone who uses a PC for more than email & web browsing, not the XP definition. I would think of the average reader of this forum is a power user. For example, I simultaneously:
* Browse the web
* Encode video or copy/burn optical media
* Use MS Office...
Also, Atoms are cheaper, which brings the price down. The current netbook GPUs are actually better than the older ones.
Netbooks seem to have lost traction lately, they really are not that useful for power users. They are basically entry-level PCs, if you're a serious user you might want to...
Excellent decision! I highly recommend 3Ware.
Leave it be. As I've learned the hard way onboard controllers are not as good as true hardware controllers. Besides, with a true hardware controller the RAIDing will be offloaded from the system CPU. A good hardware controller like the 3Ware...
Well...I'm running on memory fumes right now, as I switched to a single, more powerful centrally located WAP a couple of years ago. I do remember both WAPs being visible in something, it may have been the D-Link utility.
As for DHCP, if the ISP provides a router integrated with the modem, use...

CraigsList=free
DBAN=free
Time is all it would cost, and you might earn bus fare from the sale. Also, have you priced big hammers recently??? [smile]

Screen resolution is usually determined by the GPU, not the CPU. Still, it would make sense that more power being used by the GPU to process more pixels (and the larger CCFL) would throttle back the CPU speed, but my guess is what you're seeing is inadequate GPUs trying to process more...
In my office, I use the same SSID on two different WAPs, basically the same as your first scenario, except I left the channels the same (maybe I should rethink that). The PCs lock onto the stronger one without fail. They are all WinXP workstations using the Windows wireless utility. When I...
Run DBAN first, use an external monitor if you need to. There are folks who buy junk PCs and milk the hard drives for data.

As for S.M.A.R.T data, that depends on your RAID driver, I'm not sure about yours, but I would look in the Event Viewer for clues. I had a problem with a SATA controller reverting from IDE to PIO mode, so check that in Device Manager. Change the cables on both drives just to be sure that's not...
What I don't like is that you apparently are using the "Matrix" function of the ICH8 to control (2) independent RAID 1 arrays. Onboard RAID controllers are not true hardware RAID, they use the CPU to process RAID, so that's a lot of cycles between the two arrays.
I would remove one of the...
It's all academic as code writers are lazy and do not even take advantage of the current 4/6-core chips already out. Until some code authors get ambitious and target massively parallel applications those many-cores will just sit there twiddling their thumbs.

That's basically what SBS backup is, it's an automated NTBackup script that restores System State, AD, and data. Overall time is about the same, entire process took only a little more than one hour.
