try to make a reset with the reset button and then upgrade to the 4.0 GA Software.
IP 500 is shipped from the factory with 4.0.0 a not fully functioning version.
You have to set use the Authorization Codes for that user and then make a short code to take the line with the flag "force authorization code".
try this example:
create an authorization code 1234 for the user 201.
create a short code for the the user 201.

I've the same problem....
call recording with short code doesn't work....tested on a small office rel.4.0(5) and vm pro 4.0(15).
IN manager help the instructions are:
take the call in hold and then type the short code..but nothing....

manager 6.0.5 works fine on every pre 4.0 releases!
I had the same problem of djrabin and i have solved it installing only call status from the 3.2.(55) cd release!
now all works!
