basically you are using the wrong shape to do this. I've given you a link to an image that shows the type of shape you need, but you will need to work the dimensions out yourself :-)

Well, you shouldn't be creating the whole page in fireworks unless it's a mockup of a design, if that's what you mean.

You can't give gradients to strokes I'm afraid. You would have to punch a small rectangle out of a larger rectangle to create a composite path that mimics the stroke, and give that path a gradient.
Not sure I can visualise what you are trying to achieve though, do you have an example...

This is an old post, so I'm not sure whetehr you are still looking for a solution, but here's one.
You can't apply a gradient to a line, but you can draw a 1 pixel high rectangle and apply the gradient to it - it will look the same.

select the first frame you want to change and, whilst holding down shift, select the last frame you want to change. This should highlight all frames in between. Double click on the frame delay and change as you would normally - this will change all highlighted frames.
