I have an HP 3320b printer that will run (I hope) on a homebuilt that has a 400 Mhz PII with 128mb ram. the hard drive is at maybe 20% full. Other software will autorun but the drive CD that came with the printer will not even start.

You might want to try software from Gibson Research. Go to GRC.com and read up on hard drive antics and solutions. Steve works wonders for recalcitrant drives.
Sounds like one of two issues with Athlon processors and specific motherboards. The ECS board is very stable, imho, but it does need to be setup correctly. Be sure the RAM jumper is set to the proper position. If that is done then find an AMD certified 300W or larger power supply and install it...
I have used this board for two machines. Both are rock solid. I have an AMD 1.33Ghz in one and an AMD XP1800 in the other. They work really really well. No problems in six months.
