HP 3320 USB will not install

I have an HP 3320b printer that will run (I hope) on a homebuilt that has a 400 Mhz PII with 128mb ram. the hard drive is at maybe 20% full. Other software will autorun but the drive CD that came with the printer will not even start.

I tried the run box with the autorun and the setup.exe files but neither will run. By the way, this is a USB only printer.

Any ideas?

Can you double-click on the CD drive in My Computer and see the setup file. Try running it from there. You may have to highlight the CD drive and do a File>Open if you can't double-click on it. It may be a bad CD. Try cleaning the CD. Jim

dellisia: What operating system please? 98, 98se, 98me etc. Make sure you have the latest driver before you start:

The computer is running 98se. I have the latest driver from HP and it will not run. I am really baffled.

I dug out a loaner PC that is a twin to the one mentioned in my post and the printer installed like a dream. I was able to install Office 97 on the machine without a hitch so the drive is not the problem.

I copied the whole CD to the bard drive; it won't run from there either.

After you installed the "twin" printer, did you shutdown, unplug the "twin", plug in the other printer, bootup and see if it would work? If you have 2 identical printers( such as HP 3320b) and you have drivers installed so that one will work and if the other one doesn't, then the second one is faulty and needs repair or to be thrown out. The logic or mainboard in the non-working printer may be shot.
