Diancecht (Programmer)Maybe it's time to defragment the hard drive. How many options appear on the menu when it's displayed? The usual options Open, New, Print, Send To, Open with, cut, copy, etc all in all 15.
I defragmented hard drive a week ago.

G0AOZ (TechnicalUser)Have you checked in Task Manager, Performance tab, to see if CPU is running at high percentage usage?
Following your advice I saw that next moment I tried to open file CPU was running to zero and then slowly it performance rose to some 30-50 percents.

I plucked up my heart at last and use ShellExView to check role of the context menu handlers. As far as I have only 6 non-Microsoft handlers I tried to disable them first one by one and then disabled them all, restart computer...and nothing changed in any...
Let me confess. I knew about ShellExView but it suggest to spend a lot of time. I have to add that the problem of long period of time that spending at opening of file exists only just after start of Windows and desappeares after some time. And there was no such problem some weeks ago. That is...
What may be the cause and remedy that the menu that appears on the right mouse button push against any file in Windows Explorer showing hourglass for very long time
as it seems to me? I have windows xp sp2.
It is really checked already because different types of CD were burned on this computer: musik CD, application, photo, text. There is only one "bad" CD. I have no idea how to diagnose and solve the problem, but it seems to me that the key point here is that this CD is readable with Windows 98SE...
Yes, it can.
I have only Adaptec CD Creator 5 Platinum. And I usually simply copy files using Windows Explorer.
There are several text files in different formats written on this "bad" disk.
I appreciate your patience in trying to solve my problem. It may help me.
Yes! You are right!
In IE I have 0 objects answer.
If it adds some worth information I tried the "bad" CD in yet another computer with Windows XP Home and Samsung DVD Rom SD-616. The answer was

The disk is corrupted and unreadable.
The disk was and is readable with...
There is a CD that was written on my computer with NEC NR-7800A CD ROM. After it was full I could not explore it on the computer though I could make it on another one with another CD Rom brand. Other CD explore well. On the above mentioned another computer I read File System of this "bad" CD. It...
I have nothing against your suggestion but this man sent me a reg file that worked. I do not see how can I send it here except as copy it (there is no possibility for attached file).

I have no another user on the computer. I can send you a copy of the part of my Registry you mentioned but how? I can't see a possibility to attach some file.
I see there too many numbers and five (let me name it so because I do not know which are their names in fact) parts: Microsoft Word...
When you right-click an empty space in Windows Explorer or on the Desktop, you'll see a sub-menu called 'New' which lets you create a new document in that folder. On my computer I stopped to see New txt and tex files. Neither TweakUI nor X-setup Pro works to help. I think it can help if I write...
Dear bcastner!
I've done almost everything that you advised. Almost because I did not understand the last point of your recipe, I do not know what is the difference between REG_EXPAND_SZ and REG_SZ types. What I've seen in my comp Registry was c:\windows for windir value. So I did not change...
