When you right-click an empty space in Windows Explorer or on the Desktop, you'll see a sub-menu called 'New' which lets you create a new document in that folder. On my computer I stopped to see New txt and tex files. Neither TweakUI nor X-setup Pro works to help. I think it can help if I write an excerpt from my Registry
.txt
Name Data
(Default) txtfile
Content Type text/plain
Perceived Type text
ShellNew-
(Default) (value not set)
NullFile

.tex
(Default) LaTeX.Document
ShellNew-
(Default) (value not set)
FileName c:\ProgramFiles\ScientificNotebook \Shells\General\Blank Document.shl
NullFile

Please pay attention on the line by FileName for the TEX extension though in Folder Options\File Types for the TEX extension stays Opens with Winedt.

What have you got in this location?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Discardable\PostSetup\ShellNew

See if you can locate another user on your machine whose registry has not been "Tweaked" (perhaps the Safe Mode Administrator???), and compare entries.

In your posting is "ProgramFiles" a typing mistake?

I have no another user on the computer. I can send you a copy of the part of my Registry you mentioned but how? I can't see a possibility to attach some file.
I see there too many numbers and five (let me name it so because I do not know which are their names in fact) parts: Microsoft Word Document, WinRAR archive, WinZip file, ~reserved~, Language. Three first of them are those that appear in my New context menu.

Hello theoretician,

According to your list, you have not shown what is the value of NullFile. If it is for somereason not set, set it to an empty string "".

OK! Thank you all! The problem was solved by one of the men of Microsoft News Group.

Are you going to share the answer with us so that it helps the next passerby?

I have nothing against your suggestion but this man sent me a reg file that worked. I do not see how can I send it here except as copy it (there is no possibility for attached file).
