    Didn't see you get a response so I'll throw in what I know. If they had the same userid for both internet and mail access (not unusual), it is possible their userid is stored in the registry linked to their mail account info. Run regedit-find-"smtp" or "pop3" and check.

    All info indicates a missing command in your system.ini file. Suggestion to repair is open your system.ini file with a text program (Notepad etc.), and add the following line: drivers=mmsystem.dll Save and reboot.

    Bios asking for password

    Shade tree mechanic way - pull the battery. I did this on a PC that was left at the warehouse due to a forgotten bios password. Sometimes needs to be left out 24 hours to let the capacitors discharge, but it resets the CMOS and clears the password (not supposed to work on laptops, though).

    PCI Simple Communications Controller

    Sometimes even with the right driver 2KPro's wizard can't find it in the file you load it to (or disk you designate). In this case a driver with it's own setup works. Just run the setup file, and 2K will recognize it next boot. www.driverguide.com had mine.

    Over time I continue to see helpful suggestions that suggest start-run- and then one of those handy Windows file like msconfig, sfc.exe (or, I just learned eventvwr.msc from another thread). Is there a website that lists these files? Thanks, and season's greeting to all.
