Thanks for the suggestions. Maybe there are a few things to clarify.
VNC will work across the internet provided you have the IP address of the remote machine. It won't work using the name of the remote machine because cable providers do not provide name to ip address resolution for individual...
OK, here is the deal. I have 2 win2k machines on a hub that is connected to a cable modem. Each machine is running IP and pulling an IP address from DHCP along with netBeui. I'm at machine1 and I want to use VNC to access machine2. VNC runs on IP so I need the IP address of machine2. Is there an...
I have done some searching over the last couple of day but have not come up with the answer to this problem.
I want to restore an image to a hard drive, put it in a computer with a different hard ware config, boot it and have it re-install the hard ware (thus up dating the os to the current...
The quick answer is to re-boot. You may want to look at your virtual memory settings. Make sure that you have adequate free disk space for virtual memory (the page file) to expand. You might even want to move it to another partition that has more room.

I had the same problem Haley. I ended up getting the latest/greatest PQMagic but the idea of ghosting an image, and then applying it to a larger partiton looks good to.
IF the folders are on an NTFS partition the answer is yes. Just go to :properties: for the folder that you want to limit access on, select the securtiy tab and set the permissions so that the administrator account and the user account have full control. after you have done that, remove the...
Did I understand you to say that you have already DELEATED the partition and now you want to go back, recover the data from the deleted partition and merge that data with the data on another partition?
If you have deleted the partition you are pretty much screwed unless you send the hard drive...
I have played with VB scripting a tiny tiny bit and you can access the registry, examine values and write values.
I think you will need to find someone to write the script for you or get a book and write your own. I would suspect that if you have a college near by, you can find a kid who will...
No, you only need one Wins server but you can run into problems if you have "slow" links.
The workstation needs to know where the WINS server is and be able to get to it. On a statically addressed workstation, there is a "WINS" tab under the advanced option. The IP address...
You didn't mention which OS you are running but when I have un-installed and re-installed with NT4, I found that I had to remove everything - all protocols (not just IP) adapters - everything. then when I re-installed I also had to re-apply SP6a to get it back functioning correctly.

JaDaar is correct. Wink*.exe is added as a result of a version of the KLEZ virsus. You need to get him the KLEZ "killer" from Symantec or one of the other anti-virus sites.

I had "heard" of problem but had not experienced any until a couple of days ago. In my case, one of my users install some logitech mouseware utilities on her laptop so she could use a Logitech scroll mouse. when SP3 was applied we lost the mouse. I was able to download a service pack...
The bottom line for me is that I want to support as few platforms as possible. There are security holes and problems with XP and Win2K but it is far easier to sipport and keep up with the patches for one OS. I have gone with Win2k and don't user to have XP.
I have a similar set up to yours (DL380, 4 36gb HD's in a RAID 5). In my case, I trust my backups but when I need to be absolutely certain of the integrety I do a full back up and then copy EVERYTHING to another hard drive. Now days you can get a 100gb HD for about $100. Get one and put it in...
You can set all that up in the user profile but in addition, I would set up 1 computer with nothing else on it. I would also create an image of the c: and put it on another partition and then protect that partition with the correct permissions.
The bottom line will be....
You can protect it...
When you copy a folder from one server to another, all of the folders and subfolders will inherit the permissions of the location that you are copying into.
I'm not aware of a way around that. By the way, If you could do that, you would immediately have permission problems because users are...
