    Removing Replication Partner

Recently our WAN link between two sites was removed. They were supposed to have told me before they did it so that I could properly demote server "B". However, they didn't. Luckily, I had managed to move all FSMO roles to server "A" before the link was cut. I need to remove server "B" from AD...

    Domain Controller Migration

Your absolutely right. Forgot about the migration tool! Thanks for all your help.

    Domain Controller Migration

My idea was to take a backup server and install Win2k on it, configure it as a dc as a different domain. Backup AD from server A and restore that to the backup server. When we pull the plug, demote server A, configure it for the new domain, let it replicate AD from the backup server, then demote...

    Domain Controller Migration

I had the same idea as your second post BUT, there can only be on schema master and one domain naming master in the entire forest. The only thing I can think of is that this could be done immediately following the WAN disconnect (??)

    Domain Controller Migration

The problem is that these two new domains must remain connected, but not replicating until we get the word to disconnect. At that time the WAN connection between the two will be terminated leaving 2 separate, disconnected networks, each with their own domain controller and copy of active...

    Domain Controller Migration

Currently have two DC's set up as two sites in one domain. They are currently set to replicate. DC A has three FSMO roles, dc B has the other two. Because of a recent acquisition, I need to split off dc A into a separate network which will serve a small separate group of users. Downtime for dc B...

    SYSVOL Problems

I know that questions concerning repairing and restoring SYSVOL have already been posted. However, I've never been able too find any explanation as to why login scripts, group policies and subdirectories randomly "disappear" from the SYSVOL directory. Does anyone know what causes this...

After restoring WINNT folder 2 2nd drive, SYSVOL still replicates?????

When you did the restore, did you make sure that you deselect "restore junction points" (or whatever it may be labeled in ARCServe? Because if you didn't, your restore is still probably pointing to the single instance store for Sysvol and that why changes you made were replicated...

    URGENT Win2K Server SYSVOL!!

Without knowing for sure, it sounds as if you may have a problem with junction points. If you want to restore the contents of Sysvol to another location, you have to make sure to deselect the "restore junction points" option in your backup software (KB 324175). If this is the case...

    Replication unstable,ntfrs.jdb large,dcdiag erroneous

First of all, sorry but I don't have any solution for you. However, I did want to chime in to say that we recently had a big mess with FRS and Sysvol. Our problems started when I noticed all login scripts and the domain group policy were missing from Sysvol. And like you, we did nothing. It...

    DCpromo Fails

Replication between remaing DC's if fine. No error messages. Now when I run dcpromo, it seems to be working up until the point it has to change the machine account on one of the other DC's. Here's the error msg: Operation failed because: The attempt to configure the machine account XYZ-DC$ on...

Promoting a Win2k server to PDC in an NT4 network

Set up the Win2k server initially in mixed mode. Use the migration tool to move all user accounts over from the NT 4.0 PDC. Once you've done that demote the PDC to member server using UPromote (you can find it on the web).

    DCpromo Fails

Have three Win2k domain controllers. One was added while we fixed another. Now that the it is back up and running, I need to remove the spare DC. I ran "dcpromo" but it failed to demote the server. I keep getting a "access denied" message when it tries to remove the server...

    Outlook 97 won't authenticate

Just realized that I had already posted this problem. Sorry. Also wanted to mention that clients are all Outlook 97 running on Win XP and Win 98SE.

    Outlook 97 won't authenticate

I have a number of remote users who connect to NT 4.0 terminal server running Citrix Metaframe. They are in domain A. Our Exchange 5.5 server w/Win2k Server is in domain B. Trusts are established and verified. Previously remote users would launch Outlook from terminal server to retrive email...

    Authentication - Trusted Domain

Currently have remote users connecting to Win NT4.0 terminal server running Citrix MetaFrame. The server is in domain A. The primary domain (B) includes a Win2k server running Exchange 5.5. There is a trust between domain A and B. Remote users were previously able to connect to the NT terminal...

    Slow network file copy

EntilzaSte nailed it. I set the switch port to 100Mbs instead of autosense and bam, my backup went from 1Mbps to 450Mbps. Thank you.

    Slow network file copy

It can't be the switch since copying a file out from server B to server A (or any other server) copies just fine in 2-3 minutes. The problem is moving/copying a file TO server B.

    Slow network file copy

Checked the NIC, it's running 100mb full duplex. I have turned off Norton realtime protection. The only other antiv is Sybari's Antigen but that's running for Exchange and shouldn't have any impact on file copies(???). I will try another port on the switch.

    Event log goes blank

I've noticed the same issue recently with our Exchange 2000 server. Sorry that I don't have any solutions or ideas, but keep me in the loop.
