We did a backup of folders from a server that needed to be rebuilt; backed up WINNT folder, Program Files, some 3rd party databases. Then we rebuilt the server with a second hard drive, made it a new DC, different name and IP address than what we had previously. Then we restored the backup tape to the second hard drive as we wanted to get those databases back, and with ARCServeIT, we could only choose to restore the complete backup, not just certain files. Now, we see that the WINNT folder has been 'restored' (F:/WINNT), and the contents of SYSVOL are replicating throughout the domain! We found out when we tried to delete those files and folders and then see that none of our DC's have contents in subfolders of SYSVOL....oops. Everything is restored, we think, but why does this behaviour occur? Thanks

When you did the restore, did you make sure that you deselect "restore junction points" (or whatever it may be labeled in ARCServe? Because if you didn't, your restore is still probably pointing to the single instance store for Sysvol and that why changes you made were replicated.

Check out KB 324175 for more.
