I took my Network+ test today and passed the first time!

After failing miserably more than once on my CCNA test, my confidence was shot. I needed a break from that test and decided to study for my Network+.

Even better news. Today, my recruiter was able to get me a contract position with SBC and I start on Monday.

It's time to celebrate!

follmad,

Excellent work with the Network+!

From what I've heard, the CCNA has a 96% failure rate for people taking it the first time. I don't know how steeply that drops for people taking it multiple times, but don't be discouraged that you didn't pass.

Once you start that job, you'll probably have more confidence.

congratulations.....=)

Good man. I take mine on Thursday ( gulp ) but feel confident.

Good luck Skittle! I hope you did well.

Have not taken it yet. Will take on Thursday 29th.

My confidence has nose dived.
Tried the mock tests that came with my Network+ Certification Bible book and averaged at 85% which is a little lower than I'd like. Tried another set of tests from 'MeasureUp.Com' and my scores are just below pass rate with some questions that cover info not in Cramsession or the Network+ bible torpedoing me.

Anybody know how the questions relate to the pass mark?
646 out of 900 is the pass mark but how you relate that to 72 questions is a mystery to me.

Very concerned!

I'd be happier with more questions so that the oblique ones carry less weight.

Ok, take a deep breath. Relax. Don't get yourself all worked up.

Passing score is 646 on a scale of 100 - 900. That makes the passing score an 80%.

Go to and you can download a free (100 Question) practice test from ExamCram.

glister

Working through loads of downloaded questions.
Slowly filling in the gaps. Hopefully all will be in my head by tomorrow when I take the test ( noon ).

There are afew inconsistancies or darn right incorect things in the ExamCram Network+.

According to ExamCram, a hub port with a MDI port has no cross over function so a cross over cable is required.
Every source I've used up to now indicates a MDI does perform a crosover and a MDIX does not.

Dazed and confused

MDI/MDIX is a type of Ethernet port connection using twisted pair cabling. The MDI (for medium dependent interface) is the component of the media attachment unit (MAU) that provides the physical and electrical connection to the cabling medium. An MDIX (for MDI crossover) is a version of MDI that enables connection between like devices. MDI ports connect to MDIX ports via straight-through twisted pair cabling; both MDI-to-MDI and MDIX-to-MDIX connections use crossover twisted pair cabling.

I understand.

Many thanks. I'll let you know how I do tomorrow.

Is there a definitive Network+ source of information?

I have referenced three sources and ended up with two different methodologies for trouble shooting a network problem.

Transcender says:-

Identify Problem
Recreate Problem
Define Probable Cause
Define Correction Plan
Implement Correction Plan
Test Solution
Document
Inform Users

CramSession.com says:-

Establish symptoms
Identify Affected Area
Establish What Has Changed
Select probable Cause
Implement Solution
Test solution
Recognise Effects
Document

Which is right?

Rebelfox,

I checked Comptia's website and the Cramsession methodology
closely resembles Comptia's objectives or Net+

I passed. (Big sigh of relief).

It was tougth though.
It was essential to spend time on the mock exams.

Congratulations! Whats next?

I'm booked on a MCAP .Net Boot camp in October.
After years of pleading for training my boss has finally
given in.

Even with my self taught VB knowledge that I have applied to projects over the last year or so, I'm expecting it to be very tougth.

My prepartion starts on Monday.
