Is anybody experiencing problems with using XP/home on a network?
our network is peer to peer of win98 machines, the resource being accessed is a simple workgroup share.
the problem is intermitent..usually first up but settles down.
the error response is "not a table dbf"
the table is ok though..I can access it at the same time
from another machine(win98)
I thought I had it sorted by turning prefetch off?
this seemed to improve it but has not eliminated it
It seems to me a buffer broblem with XP and
16bit applications (what is XP doing)
any ideas

Our preferred grid is the msflexgrid. I have a bit of info on it for you: faq222-3262. We use is just about everywhere in our apps. Hope this helps.

thanks for your answer Tom
the faq you point to is interesting but I do not
see how it helps..the problem is that whenI try to use
the USE command using foxprow in XP the file is not recognised as a table..I am not sure how the msflexgrid helps?..are we on the same wavelength or am I missing something?

I would like to know if you find a solution for the problem described?
I'm having the same problem and the only solution I find is to upgrade.

This posting is very curious.

Is this supposed to be an XP forum posting?
Or is it a VFP posting (see mention of Grid)?
Did Tek-Tips get this put into the wrong forum?

Or - Is this a non-Visual Foxpro question?

If not perhaps you would best be served by posting on another forum.

Good Luck,

yes the problem was solved and yes it is a curious post.
I experienced this problem when I upgraded to xp and still had my data being served by a win98 box. In a nutshell this will not work. If you are going to be in a mixed evironment you need to get a > win98 OS serving your data. Win98 boxes work fine as a client but the caching and file locking systems available to it are not sophisticated enough for anything > win98. I am working now with a Linux(samba) server and an XP server with win98 and xp client machines with no problems.
hope this helps
