I have a D-Link DI-604 Router/Switch that I have my 98SE computer hooked to. I then wired another XP computer to the switch. I shared folders on each computer for a start. I had a Workgroup and computer name on the 98 and I tried to get the XP to join the 98 workgroup. Seemed to work after both were rebooted. On the XP, I can browse the shared 98 folder with no problem. I can also see the XP share from XP. However, on the 98 I can see the 98 share, and I can see the XP in the workgroup, but when I try to access, i get the "you must supply a password to make this connection" box. Then it lists the XP like so :\\<computer name>\IPC$. I can ping or tracert the XP from 98 without any problem. When I setup the XP for the workgroup I didn't see a place to enter a username or password for a Guest or Everyone. The XP firewall is off. I tried it with simple sharing on and off.. no difference. I tried the XP user password and nothing. I do believe i used a wizard on the XP to get it to join the workgroup. I don't know how to find out if XP really joined the 98 workgroup, or if XP setup a workgroup and 98 joined it. The workgroup was already there in98 when I added XP to the network so I'm assuming (DOH) that XP joined 98. What should I try? Need more info lemme know. Thanks,
Pete
