I'm not able to start my X! What can I do?
When I run the Xconfiguratior, it automatically detects the following:

PCI probing found a:

PCI Entry: Intel Corporation|82810E
CGC [Chipset Graphic Controller]
X Server: SVGA

After that, I select:

ViewSonic E771 from the list (that's the monitor I have)

How much video memory do you have?
1 MB (I've also tried 2 Mb and 16 Mb, just to make sure
this is not the error)

No Clockchip Setting

Do you want to run 'X -probeonly' now?
Yes

I select:
8 bit:
[*] "640x480"

(I assume it's the "easiest" way it can work, even when it's not
my favourite resolution!)

It says "Xconfigurator will now start X to test your configuration".

Preparing...

And after that I receive an ugly "There is a problem
with your X configuration. You may go back and modify
your configuration or exit now".

What should I do after this!?!??!?
Thanks.

great.u seem to have solved half the problem...

no clock settings

try to set the VRAM size to 4 MB and then in the pixel area make it 32bits per pixel and check the first 2 boxes...to get 2 types of screens...choose one by pressing ctrl+alt+'-'

make sure u select the correct monitor..

When exactly does one press CRTL+ALT'+'? The problem I'm having is no matter what settings I choose in Xconfigurator, my screen is in a really low resolution when I start X; much smaller than 640*480 even. I have an S3 video card and a Hewitt Rand monitor (nothin special) And btw, I'm running RedHat 7. I don't know if this is enough info, but hopefully it's enough. Thanks.

I wasn't able to switch between the 2 types, because I still get the same error and the startx doesn't work.

Try setting your Vram to 1Mb or 2Mb to see if that helps. d3funct

The software required `Windows 95 or better', so I installed Linux.

I guess that's what I've tried with the Xconfigurator, but didn't work :-(

im having that same problem, check to see if your video card is compatible. go to redhat.com, then support and look for the hardware list. Anyone know how i can install a video driver when i am in shell mode?

If the driver doesn't exist for Linux, you'll have to wait until one does or write your own and share it (if you'd be so kind to the rest of the community.) :) d3funct
