My 'moister' post got 42 posts I never hoped for. So here is another word from my 6th grader. Yesterday she reads 'his hands rap ... steering wheel' - I am not sure exactly of the sentence but she said she sees it for the second time and could this be type of 'wrap' word?
I wasn't sure. Do you have any idea?

Rap can mean to drum as in tap your fingers against the steering wheel whilst in a jam.

Wrap and rap are two different words, either of which may be used with the a steering wheel. You could wrap your hands around the wheel, or as Ken said, rap the wheel with your hands.

Hi,
May be a typo....I have never seen 'rap' used as a synonym for 'wrap'...

But, it may have meant that his hands 'rapped' ( that is, tapped on ) the steering wheel..Similar usage to someone 'rapping your knuckles' as a punishment (recalling fond ( sometimes) memories of Nuns at school)...

Huh! My first guess was 'rap' is a tapping and I showed that to her but she said - 'it would be tapping' and I agreed. Could they made typo twice?

Sure it's possible they don't know how to spell 'wrap', but a rap is not necessarily a tap either. Rap, outside of the music context, generally means a sharp blow. So it's possible that rap was used referring to a tapping as in a musical context, or rap in terms of a sharp blow, or a misspelling of wrap.

In order to help figure out which is correct, we'd have to have a better understanding of the context. Can you provide a couple of sentences before and/or after the ones that use rap?

'She doesn't blink. Why do you have a service dog? I rap my fingers on a steering wheel and look over the park.'
Next paragraph starts.

Not helping, am I?

I would interpret that to be a rhythmic tapping.

I think that would be very different from, "He rapped the steering wheel in frustration because he missed the turn." Which is altogether different from, "He wrapped his hands around the steering wheel and took control of the car."
