Think of words ending in -gry. 'Angry' and 'hungry' are two of them. What is the third word in the English language?

Yes, interesting how this old one keeps cropping up in various places!

Irritating is indeed the word.

According to Wikipedia, 'gry' itself is a word. An old word, that is.

Code:
[b]Gry[/b] is an obsolete unit of measurement, equal to one tenth of a line, which is in turn one twelfth of an inch. Hence, a gry is 120th of an inch, or 211.66 micrometres, presuming international inches are used.
...
Aside from words derived from "angry" and "hungry," there is no stand-alone word ending in "gry" that is in current usage.
...
To find a third word ending in "gry" that is not part of a phrase, you must turn to obsolete words or personal or place names. A list of 130 of these is given at the end of this article.

I find it interresting that there are only two words in modern english that end with "gry" yet I'm certain that everyone asked will easily come up with the answer.

fashion and cushion are a bit kindred to this post, any other words in ending shion - there's one but it's a stretch

I suppose that doesn't count!

There are at least two other colors for which there is no rhyming word. Can you say what they are?

Thanks Dimandja. Carrying on along this theme, how much of a word needs to sound like another to rhyme with it? For instance does 'aquamarine' rhyme with 'clean'? Does 'proliferation' rhyme with 'station'?

Also, does this include only English words?
Does anyone know words from other languages which rhyme with the English 'unrhymables'?

>how much of a word needs to sound like another to rhyme with it?

I've always wondered about that too. Look at the poem below. On line 14, done is supposed to rhyme with fun!?

I thought about that but the pronunciation guide at
hyperdictionary.com gives
Code:

Elver pronunciation: 'elvur
Silver pronunciation: 'silvur

I guess it depends on how many syllables need to rhyme for the whole word to be considered a rhyme

If its just the last syllable then there are probably lots
