We have recently upgraded our Compaq ProLiant 1600 server from NT4 to 2000 by means of a fresh install. Now with 2000 server, the utilization can be very high (eg making a copy of a folder on the same drive from the server itself pushes the utilization to around 90-100% and deleting the copied folder pushes it to 100%). This did not happen with NT4. We have tried swapping out the memory with known good memory but the problem still occurs. Also, intermittently (it has happened 3 times in the last 3 weeks), the server stops responding to all requests. It can still be pinged but not seen in Network neighbourhood. The only way to solve this is to reboot the server. Nothing appears in the event log and the server has been patched with the latest Microsoft and Compaq patches and has all the latest network and video drivers installed.
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
