I have my workgroup name saved and it is fine until I reboot. Once I reboot it changes back to the default name. I am administrator and have no idea how to fix this problem.

for the new workgroup name to become aktive, you have to reboot once, you should get that as a popupmessage when you hit ok to save the change (after welcome to workgroup .....)

do you get this message?

no.... it never comes up on these 2 computers... but it did on all the others (have a 20 system lab)

On 2 computers, I do not get the Welcome... on all other systems I am getting the message and they are fine. It is these 2 that never give me that message and the workgroup name goes back to default.

You must have administrator rights in order to save that part of the registry during shutdown.

David.

Weird thing is .. I do have Admin rights... I have NEVER experienced anything like this before... gonna go check everything again.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Anything in the above key set for "NoSaveSettings" for the user? Or is there any other value set in there that might be causing the problem?

If Mohammed was still around he would change the Workgroup name on the other computers to match the name on those two pesky machines.

haha.. I like Mohammed's thinking.. but... for security and server reasoning.. I can't do that. Will check the registry.. ty !!

have a 20 system lab"
did you use clones to set them up (double sid´s?)

try resetting winsock (either with netsh or winsockfix) on the 2 pc´s

I remember there being something in the specs of concurrent connections in a workgroup using XP (something like 10). Could that have anything to do with these being dropped?

David.

winsock is good idea, thanks. Hoping to get back on this tomorrow.

No... On the campus, I have over 250 systems total.... and use 10 workgroups. Not having this problem anywhere else. I just put these 10 new systems in this lab and all are fine except these 2. This group has been in place for years; it is not new.
