Okay, here is the situation, we have an NT 4.0 network here where I work, but we do not have NT workstation on the PCs, just Win98, and me and 2 other people have Win 2000 Professional. This one lady has Win98 on her pc and a HP Deskjet 820 Cse printer attached to it locally. I hooked the printer up to it using the original installation disks that came with printer (3 of them). Well, we started having problems with other people(using Win2000 Prof) sharing the printer across the network. So I updated the driver off of HP's website its called dj379en. On the pc's with Win2000 Prof., I have used the add printer wizard to try to install the printer over the network and used Network Neighborhood to find the printer to install over the network and still is doesn't work. Here is the error message: The server on which the HP Deskjet 820C Series v8.5 printer does not have the correct printer driver installed. If you want to install the printer on your local computer click okay. Well we have no print server dedicated for printing, just the pc where the printer is attached locally. And on this pc where this printer is, it prints fine locally, but the users with Win2000 Prof. can not print to this printer over our network becuase of this error message. I know that the driver I found on HP's website was the correct one. Can someone please help??

Has file and print sharing been turned on? This would be done in the network area of the control panel. If it was then is the printer set up as a shared printer?

If you're just getting stumped by the error message, click OK and proceed with the printer driver install. W2K should have the driver installed in the OS or you can browse the system to the area where you put the drivers you downloaded. But, like mentioned above, you have to make sure the sharing is turned on...

Any printer I have tried to install will provide the same message, just proceed, install the driver and continue on...no problems as of yet and we are on a Novell network...

File and print sharing has been turned on and the printer is set up for sharing using user-level access control(each user has to supply a password for the printer).

All that is turned on but I get that error message and it won't allow printing on the network . The error message states that you can continue to install the printer, but locally. I have even tried installing it locally on my system with Win2000 Prof., then right clicking, and adding the path to that person's printer ex.
\\Market-coord\820HPC clicking apply and it won't allow it. I know there has to be a way to do this.

Try removing the password protection for printing. This has been an issue with shared printers.

Let me know if it helps.
