win98se upgrade trouble

OK, I've got two computers. The one I just got came with win98se, but I decided to run win2k on it. My other computer runs win98a, but I'd like to upgrade it to win98se as I have the cd, but the installation won't upgrade. It says I can't upgrade from that CD. I figure there must be a way around this, because I own the OS now and only want to use it on one computer...has anybody else found a solution to this problem? I'd rather not format the drive to install win98se.

is it the Upgrade version or the full version CD.

I'm trying to upgrade from 98a to 98se.

there is no 98a but I know what you mean, unless you have the upgrade version you cant exactly do it, but try this since, I've heard it some many times, take win.com and rename it to something like win.old, and try installing Win98SE from RealMode DOS, if it's not an *Upgrade* version, I dont know if it'll keep everything you had on the original 98, I know with the MSDN Copy of 98, it's both full and upgrade, and would upgrade my 98 keeping all my settings.
