Trying to install Win98SE. Done the whole Fdisk/Format/Install routine. However, I am routinely running into the same problem.

During the second reboot, in the middle of the hardware detection phase, the logo screen locks up. The blue and white scroll-bar freezes, and nothing I can do will cause the computer to respond. Even Ctrl-Alt-Delete does no good.

I have attempted install on spare hard drives that I know work, and I am getting the same problems.

Could be bad RAM. Try different RAM and see how it does.

Go into your CMOS settings and disable Plug-N-Play. When the machine boots, go to Control Panel->Add New Hardware and install your hardware (modem, NIC, etc.) Not pretty, but it may get you past your problem.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Thank you ANFPS26. Swapping out the RAM worked. I took out three 64M/100 sticks from a working machine and swapped it out. Rebooted, and it resumed where it left off.
