hi friends ,

i m new to nortel meridian systems.....i do have the Merl Core CD of nortel but then a new comer cant make much out of those ....i m goin thru it but getting many doubts ......
One of those doubts is When we use Ani-Data and how clid info in private/public networks are related to that ....also when ld 90 comes in picture related to this topic.......

I will be really thankfull if somebody explains this out as i beleive there must be many experts in this forum who wud luv to teach few good things of Nortel to fresh guy like me

thanx in advance

ani is incoming number/name, clid calling line id is your outbound number that your sending to the network.. as far as load 90.. three types of numbers spn (911 800) nxx for local office codes and npa for area codes.. in that loas you point point a number to a rlb.. ld 86 prt rlb.. then enter the rli from 90.. that will point to a route, with or with out a dgt table to insert or delete dialed numbers.. it will also ref a frl (facility restriction level) those are defined in 87 under nctl, normal is frl 1=ncos 1 thru frl 7 =nocs 7.. the frl is the "cost" of the call. the ncos on your phone relates to funds you can use... if your ncos is 3 and the frl is 4 you can't use that route... you can have several entries in each rlb.. some cheaper then others.. at my site guest can make a ld call on our ld pri's but cannot step over to the more expensive routes. when you define ac1 (access code 1) a 9, that sends the call to load 90.. the 9 is asorbed and the next 1 3 or 4 digits route the call.. again at my site, if you dial 9 1803 + 7 digits, i strip the area code and send the call out on the locals.. if you dial 9 + 864 + 7 digits is strip the 1 and send the call to my least expensive in state route, if that route is busy, you get a busy, unless your upper managment or the phone man...then i leave the 1 in and send it out other routes...best way to learn a switch, unless you can put one in new, is to print everything and do traces until you see then picture...

Hello Nortelnovice,

Check out this website:
There is a good tutorial on BARS/NARS.

On an unrelatedy note, I have only been working on PBX's for about two years, but started out asking vendors questions and reviewing the manuals. I have since been to classes at global knowledge, but learned a great deal on my own.

Just hang in there, and it will come.

Good luck, JK
