Ok, this is really bugging me. Why does everyone refer to Microsoft as Micro$oft? Is this just a trend? Or is it that posters electing to replace the S with $ are steering clear of any potential repercussions possibly caused by posts containing view points critical of the software giant?

Please explain this to me or just tell me that I'm overthinking this one.

Having read all this thread I thought this article would be most appropriate as the 100th post.

It would seem malware can infect anyone, even Bill.

No, I'm not including you in the unreasoning crowd. I'm including ones like a Mi[¢]ro$oft-centric larval-stage KoolAid-crowd zealot luser of a netizen I recently encountered (not in Tek-Tips) who accused me of Mi[¢]ro$oft-bashing when I advised someone to be careful about installing WinXPSP2 because it breaks some software. Interestingly, he got really quiet then I posted the link to the Mi[¢]ro$oft website page which lists software Mi[¢]ro$oft admits will break under that OS patch.

But I advise you to not confuse the message with the envelope. I say this because your use of the word "cause" makes me think you're reading way too much into a couple of currency signs.

I've found that poking around with the Win32 utilities available at SysInternals very enlightening. They've been especially helpful to me in diagnosing a W2K- and XP-infecting worm that's gotten into my network.
