Why is the input mask for a date/time field in a table not working?

I have a form that is using data from a table. One of the fields is a time. I have it formatted it in the table to have an input mask that will make the time appear as such "3:56 PM." For whatever reason, the time is appearing like this: "3:56:00 PM" in the table as well as on the form. I can go to the form and re-enter the input mask and it will appear correctly in the form, however it still appears incorrectly in the table. Since I am combining some of the fields in some other places, this is screwing me up. Any ideas on why this is happening?

Check the properties of your field--it's probably set to long time. Format>Format and use the drop down box to change to what you want.

Actually, it's set to medium time - I've checked it about a thousand times trying to make sure I selected the correct mask. thanks though.
