Today, I found my name on a Task List that I knew nothing about.

Apparently, someone assigned my initials to some tasks on this list and gave me a requested completion date of last week.

No one bothered to tell me about it!

Has this ever happened to you?

Have you ever been assigned a task at work and never told about it, yet expected to have it done by the due date?

Sure. Never miss a meeting, you'd be surprised what you get tasked with.

My personal least favorite is the person who comes it at 15 minutes before quitting time on a Friday with a task that must be done by me before 8:00 am on Monday that she has known about for weeks and never mentioned.

Are you sure it's not on a set of meeting minutes, or an email, you were sent but never got round to reading?

If there was a meeting, I wasn't invited.

I rechecked my emails and couldn't find anything.

What should I do?

Tell your boss you were not informed of this task in an email. Then face the fact that you will probably have to do it right away, dropping all else.

Thanks for all your advice.

I'll talk to my boss right away.

Similar scenario but a little better for me;

I got my initials added to a security module that had been written with another programmer. I noticed this 6 months later, didnt remember a thing about the module so spoke to the other programmer.

He turned round and said i spent a day with him designing and writing some of it so added my initials. I gave him much kudos for adding my name to the finished module.

I wish someone would just call me Sir, without adding 'Your making a scene'.

I have and in some instances it was a case of mistaken identity.

I would also contact the person who assigned the task to you and ask why. Perhaps they thought you were someone else or have skills that you may no have.

I also agree with SQL Sister in informing your boss about this new task. I've had quite a few pushed off because my boss diagreed with the assignment or even the priority.

Good luck!

MColeman,

I feel your pain! Just had a talk with my Boss after his Management meeting and a change is required, increasing the size of a exsisting field in the database.

Guess WHO has 28 days to rebuild the database and modify 10 programs by year end.

ME......[curse] makes you just want to [laser]..somebody...

ok... I feel better now

save some ammo for when you work overtime to get it done
in just 18 days, then they change their mind, and then
you have just 10 days to redo it

I hear you....

To make matters even more interesting, they are not sure how much of a size increase is needed.

Great Planners...[bugeyed] are they...
