I have been providing support for a client's w2k network for the past year.
They also have a SCO Unix Open Server, release 5. We will be making some
network changes that will affect the SCO server so I need to get up to speed
on this system. To start we will be changing the IP address scheme to
accommodate a new DSL line. I would like to get a copy of the SCO server software to load onto an extra machine I have this way I can become familiar with
administering the server before going to my client. I tried to obtain the software through and can only find products that work with the OS and not the OS itself. The client does not have their CD so borrowing it is out. They
did have a copy of SCO Companion by James Mohr that I can use but would like
to have a system to play with. I am new to Unix and would appreciate any
help you can provide.

Thanks in advance,

Eric

SCO has been bought by Caldera:
You cam buy SCO/Caldera any number of places on the Web, is one, but a Google search would turn up many more.

To PLAY with, however, you can use a low cost personal use version:

see
You have to buy the media kit (get the non-commercial one- it's the same software, just packaged differently), but you can get a personal use license there free.

BTW, you might finf useful too.

Since you mentioned changing the IP address, you will definitely want to read Tony Lawrence

Also Eric- you'll probably need to add a default route and configure DNS since you are ading that DSL

Thanks for the info. I have been to your site and read the new_name.html doc. Do I need to config DNS and default route if this server is only used to run an application?
I am only interested in having the SCO server on the same subnet.

Sorry I forgot to add this to my last post.

I was at Caldera's site and followed the link to purchase the Media Kit below.
SCO OpenServer 5.0.6 Media Kit for Non-Commercial Use
CC200-UX74-5.0.6
$49.00

Is this the server edition OS? Why do they call it the "Media Kit"? Please forgive me but being new to this the title is misleading.

Eric

It's what you want yes.

It's "media" as in it contains the CD's (the media) you need to install the OS- but you are right, it makes it sound like something for the newspapers :)

Don't forget to get your free license- you'll need it to install this.

You don't need a default route/DNS if the SCO server is not going outside of this subnet, no..
