Dear All,

I am interested in developing databases mainly for my business (a consuyltancy) to track customers and to develop a forum for other consultants worldwide.

I have a basic knowledge of Access/ASP but would like to know what is the optimum DB language/platform for me. Basically:

I run on MS.
I would like to put my DBs online
I would like to develop something that has more power/is more commercially viable than what I know already

Furthermore, I enjoy DB programming, and considering also my future if outside consultancy, what is the gonna be the most sought after but least complex package to get to know?

MS SQL server, MySQL, all this.Net stuff (really have had my head buried in sand of late:))

any advice would be welcome. I'd also point outr i really don't want to invest much money-wise, just work with my ol' Desktop and have someone host everyhting for me.

many thanks, neil

LAMP - Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP. This seems to be one of the most popular combinations. iSeriesCodePoet

One thing that you could do, without spending a lot of money, is look at some free tutorials and see what spikes your interest. It is hard to know if you will like or be good at something if you have never tried it. Compare that to what is in demand on job posting sites and you could have yourself a game plan.

There are lots of free tutorials at and Thanks and Good Luck!
