There isn't much of an alternative to one-x, considering the features it gives you that are really ip office centric.
If you're looking for just presence/chat, try an XMPP service, maybe google talk.
If you want presence/chat/phone intregration, try UC+;
I must say that I wished they had left PMPRO as an option. I understand that the free version competed with One-X but then just drop PMLite and charge for PMPro.
I can't see the logic in paying for Preferred Edition plus installing a server to allow a few users to control their phone from the PC. I think AVAYA is losing money on this deal because they already have the product developed that they could be selling. Limit it to sites under 32 phones if you must but please bring this back as a supported option; AVAYA and Partners will make more money if this is done, IMHO.
Nobody thinks ditching Phone Manager was a good idea except Avaya.... and people who can't be bothered installing it on client machines, though that could be pushed to the end user/IT man and you end up doing it anyway wih the call assistant for OXP, Mitel still give a free phone manager so that an easy sale for them whenever it's required (more often then not)
