We have been sent a word document, but when trying to open it it just hangs...

What is it trying to do?

If the document is uploaded via a webserver you could easily have that remove the templates from docx files programmatically. And even convert them to PDFs on the fly too.

Assuming the webserver is scriptable of course.

The document is uploaded to us via a webserver, but the service is a 3rd party app that is for a bespoke system that there is no way I'd be allowed to alter, and no way they would make an alteration FOC.

We are also in the middle of decommissioning this system, so no point in making any changes to a system on its way out.

The other issue would be the removal of the template would mean the document would not be a true likeness of that which was given to the end client.

The user is happy to not upload the word documents and convert to PDF first, which really is the easiest solution in the grand scheme of things
