Hi all,
We have had our IP office 500 system for a few months now, but there is a symbol that appears and dissapears. It is located to the left of the G symbol (See below)
We don't have a clue what it is. I have looked in the handset manual and cannot find anything.

As you can see, it appears differently on each handset.

Also while I have this thread open, when I log into the Avaya IP Office software, I have a list of warnings saying that each user does not have a password. Is it critical that we have passwords?

Thanks

Aha yes it does look like that!
Yes we have rebooted the system. It disapears for a while but then returns. We have no headsets or anything plugged into the phones.
We do love the new phone system (updraded from a LG LDK-20) and the symbol is not causing any problems. But it is annoying!

Ok I will put passwords on the users. We only have a small office with no DD numbers or private voice mails, so I will change all the passwords to the same just in case.

Anyone else have any clue what this symbol is?

if it is only on one phone switch the phone with another one.
Could be just a buggy phone also seems like the symbol is moving.

Its a BT installed IP Office.

What does one expect.

If you ever want it programmed properly, let us know! :)

hairlessupportmonkey, you are very correct! The installation was a complete nightmare.
Bloke turned up to fit the system etc, but BT never booked an openreach engineer to install the physical lines.
So we had a lovely new phone system, all installed neatly into our rack..... But no phone lines to plug into it!

I ♥ British Telecom

Two pictures I provided are of 2 different handsets. We have 5 handsets and 3 of them have this weird bat symbol.

If anyone would be interested, I could maybe provide a dump of the system config to take a look at?

Seen this appear on handsets before. Usually a reset of the phone gets rid of it.

Just a bit of LCD weirdness!!!!

I'd love to blame BT for this, but don't think I can!!!

Good luck with them. I've seen their work, not great (at best). A BT engineer told me they send them out with no training and laptops that don't have the correct things available. We've taken a few sites off them where the customer has paid out of a 2 year contract after 2 months just so they don't come back!!!!!

that is good business strategy in the short run for BT.
Make all the money right now, make the CEO look good on paper then he/she gets a big bonus and they leave and the next one gets to deal with the fallout.

Ok thanks. Like I said it is not causing any issues, just annoying that it appears randomly.

Thanks all for your help!

Love it, a whole thread on a phone problem without any mention of what type of phones and what level of IP Office software. :)

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

It must be a 1608 or a 1616.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

It wouldn't surprise me if the firmware was badly mismatched...

Or something daft with Line appearance keys...

Take Care

Matt
I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

I've seen this a few times, tends to be 1400 digital phones on combo cards, no permanent fix other then swapping the card, resetting the phone clears it temporarily though :)

Yes we do have 1408 handsets plugged into an ISDN combo card!

Here is some info on the system Sizbut

COMBO6210/BRI4 - Version 9.0.300.941
IP 500 V2 - Version 9.0.300.941

Avaya IP 1408 - Version 444-2032

If it requires messing with the firmware I think I will leave it alone. The system works fine and we cannot be without our office phones if it all goes wrong!

We do pay for a BT maintenence contract, but I cannot see them swapping the combo card. I struggle to actually get through to someone in the call centre when I call.

the symbol looks like a headest to me to me

Do you have a cordless headset with electronic hook switch cable?

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.

No we don't have any headsets plugged into any of the phones.

While looking at the IP Office system in the rack, 2 of the leds turn red for a split second then goes out. This happens about every 5ish seconds.
I will upload a video clip shortly. Or, is this normal?

That's normal.

not arrogant, just succinct.

it still looks like a headset symbol

does it move when you press the headset button on the phone?

otherwise have the phones upgraded to the correct version of firmware when they were first booted?

I have pressed the headset button. The line picks up ready to dial a number. When I hang up, the bat symbol is still there.

We have not changed the firmware on the system or handsets since it was installed by BT.

Is the firmware on the handset incorrect?
