Hi, new to the forum's. I am very new to the job life and I am looking for what computer buisnesses and tech support groups look for when hiring. Like when you do the interview what qualitys are you looking for?

That's all depend on the people who will interview you.
Most of the time there will be at least one technical person asking you a lot of technical questions. If you can impress the technical folks, then you have a good chance of getting hired. Good luck.

One of the biggest things a technical recruiter will look for is, sad to say, an education. It kind of sucks in the long-run because a person with great skills may not get the job because of a lack of a degree. Sometimes people think that a high-level education is the biggest key to how well a person will do in the work force. Don't discount real-world experience, though. A big deal of recruiters will look for certifications (A+, Networking+, CCNA, MCSE, etc.), but these alone do not get you the job.

There's three key words: Experience, experience, experience.

Without experience, go for the entry-level stuff. Even though you can tear apart, build and make a new computer work, without real-world experience, you're in the same boat as every other highschool tech geek.

In short, get experience as a co-op with a great company you'd like to work for after graduating, while earning a degree from a good school. This will accomplish two things: 1) you will get in on the ground floor and make a name for yourself and 2) get you a good education while gaining real-world experience.

Garrett is right. No company will hire someone who has NO job experience. you could be the best computer geek in the world. but if you don't have any jobs that you have done or any where that you worked that could be referenced, you will not get the job. A college degree is also very good. not that you will learn anymore...but it will get you in the door. if you have a lot of experience, then you won't even need a college degree. The best way to do well at an interview is to be yourself. i you are pretending to be something you aren't they will see it and you will be more nervous. if you talk to them like they are just some people you are talking to your hobbies about, then you are more likely to get the job over someone who is equally qualified. Dress and act professional. Look around at sites that prepare you for interviews. go to a career councilor...they can give you mock interviews that will prepare you for questions you didn't think about. I hope this helps and good luck with whatever you do.
