Hello,

I have created a report in Crystal 8.0 which uses data from a MS Access 2000 database. The database is on a workstation PC running Windows 2000 Pro. I have created a drive mapping and an ODBC driver to that database on the Web server where I am running Crystal. I have no problem refreshing the report data when viewing the report from Crystal on the Web server, and am not prompted for a password when doing so. However, when using a link on a Web page, I am prompted for a userID and password. There is no userID or password on the database or within the ODBC driver.

I have tried clicking Finish to send a blank userid / password, using the database PC's network login and password, and adding ?userid=&password= to the end of the URL to "fake it out," but these don't seem to work. I have a large series of reports being run from Web pages that access SQL databases through the same Web server, so I know that Crystal and the Web server are configured correctly. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Susan

Web Server scenarios with the RDC are always interesting because of the rights required. The account you are using when running reports from within CR on the web server is likely different from the account being used by the web server itself when you try to launch the report using a link on a web page. Does that account have access to the mapped drive you have created?

Hello,

You have a good point. I am sorry, but would you mind backing up a step with me - I am not sure how to find out which account is actually accessing the Web server.

Thanks very much! [sunshine] It definitely sounds like my problem. I am delving into the details, and will post an update.

-Thank you, FVTrainer, for pointing me toward the Crystal Decisions article. I was able to find the right answer in one of the support articles they mention, ce8_looping_logon.pdf, at
The problem is that Access does not support drive mappings for the database connectivity if the database is on another server, it wants a UNC path. My ODBC driver was created with a drive mapping, so I changed it to a path, and I no longer have the problem.
