I'm moving a partner system to a new locaction and it has two 206 modules, an acs module and a vs mail 2port module. I've installed these before but without the acs and vs mail modules and I'm reading that the yellow light is supposed to go out after ten seconds. If the yellow light doesn't go out what does this generally indicate? I'm just now connecting the wires and the old programming is still in place, the extensions and lines work but I haven't jumped into the vs mail module yet but did notice this.

Thanks!

Jerz

To further clarifiy all three lights stay on. It seems to go through a boot process but at the end of the process all three lights stay lit.

Hi Jerz66,
Can you hear the drive spin up? If you connect your laptop to the serial port you can watch the boot sequence. Same settings as SMDR I think.

I can hear the hard drive spin up and the lights flash while it's booting up, line one and two light up for a few seconds and then all of the lights (red, green and yellow) on the vs mail module come on. The vs mail module is R4.0 and the ACS module is R3.0 Are you saying that I can connect to the RS232 jack on the VS Mail with my laptop? So I'd need a 9pin to rj cord to connect? Can I connect from my laptop modem to the RS232? Would I just use the Windows XP Hyperterminal?

Thanks!

Well I rebooted again and I can hear the drive spin up but then the drive sounds like it stops and and yellow light comes on.

If I do the following I get rings but no answer:

Intercom 777
Intercom 34
Intercom 35

Your voicemail is hosed. Its needs replaced. If they are only using the ten mailboxes and main greeting you can probably get away with a PC Large. If they want a directory and sub menus and announcements then look at the Partner Messaging Rel 7.0.

Yeah, they want the sub menus and announcements. It looks like there are a several places on the web to get one for around a thousand bucks. Bad thing is that they replaced this thing once already but oh well.

Thanks.

Hi Jerz66,
You have two options that make sense as I see it.

1. Have the hard drive replaced or send the entire unit for service.

2. Buy a new one with warranty. Voicemail units are servers so old ones will have rough drives.

I guess they didn't learn their lesson and are going to repeat the same mistake again- "it looks like there are a several places on the web to get one for around a thousand bucks". Buy from a reputable dealer who will give you new equipment and a warranty. This may cost a few dollars more but how much is it costing them now because they shopped price and probably got refurb or gray market?

What are you talking about? It seems that the places that google came up with were in the range of a thousand bucks to fifteen hundred with really no shopping around. New and 1year warranty. What is your definition of a reputable dealer? I'd certainly check them out too but if they don't show up in google then where would I find them? Any help in finding a "reputable" dealer would be appreciated.

Sorry but I don't see a way to edit on these boards. As FURTHER clarification they replaced this module a couple of times already and used what they *thought* was a "reputable" dealer here locally; unfortunately they were charged more than five times what the Partner VS10 costs now. It's not about being cheap.

Thanks for your link but I checked the price and it is $1,195.00 which in my book is around a thousand dollars. That site to me doesn't look any more reputable than the next.

Thanks for your input.

Jerz66

I'm not saying there being cheap, it's just best to replace it with new, you will always save money in the long run and you get a warranty to boot. That's to bad they got hooked up with a place that charged them way to much.

A trusted source for years.

We can't change the past, just try and be smart about the future. If an Avaya authorized shop has a new HD, that would be cheaper and about as good as a new one. Sent the entire unit in. Otherwise, buy new.

I think those are R7 with 2 port lic.
Indeed...

Thanks though...

It doesn't look like we'll need unified messaging so we'll probably try and get this one fixed or get a new one. Is there a place to get a new VS mail 2port or are they discontinued?
