I'm moving a partner system to a new locaction and it has two 206 modules, an acs module and a vs mail 2port module. I've installed these before but without the acs and vs mail modules and I'm reading that the yellow light is supposed to go out after ten seconds. If the yellow light doesn't go out what does this generally indicate? I'm just now connecting the wires and the old programming is still in place, the extensions and lines work but I haven't jumped into the vs mail module yet but did notice this.

Thanks!

Awesome... I've no problem replacing the drive in this thing (can't be much different than adding drives to a replaytv, empeg or computer and it doesn't sound like I need to do any mirroring or os install).

Just one question... is the general consensus that it is DEFINATELY the hard drive? I have a lot less experience with these units than you guys but I think what I'll do is propose replacing the drive for $250, getting a refurbished with a one year warranty for around $500 or a new Partner Messaging R7 module for $1,500

This sales office moves around every two years or so so I don't think investing in the exchange server along with the R7 module would be too feasible. Will the Messaging R7 module forware the voice mails to a POP account instead of a server?

Thanks for all of the help!

I have had good luck with Refurbs ,in fact thats mostly what we sell.

if you buy from a legitmite supplier you get a warranty often the same as new and usally easier to deal with

in fact we offer the same warranty new or refurbed to our customers.

the only reason I can see for new is if you want the newer releases in which case refurb price is usally right up thre with new in which case I would buy new but if there is substanil savings we quote refurb

probably the real question that should be asked is why are these units failing ?

is there any decent power condtioning/ ups in place ?
how about surge protection on the co lines ?

have you taken a look at loop current ?

the best warranty for all concerned is the one thats never used .

I'm not sure whether it was on a power conditioner or anything before the problems. Supposedly the first time it was lightning that caused the damage. By the time I got to it there was a ups on it with a surge arrester and I simply disconnected it and put it in a closet for several months until it was needed at the next sales center. So there will be a different power source, etc. But near a large construction site there can be a lot of funny things going on with the power.

Thanks,

Hi Jerz66,
Depends on how you feel as to which way you go. The system goes with you when you move, computers too. So that removes that argument. Look at the new features on the R7 and determine if they have value for you.

Loop current will have no effect on th voice mail unit.

To comment on your suggestion, Chris, I have a VS 4.1 that uses similar setting on the RS232 port as SMDR does. What works on my VS 4.1 is 9600, 8, N, 1, No Flow Control.

As compared to SMDR that is 1200, 8, N, 1, No Flow Control.

Hi Dan,
I was too lazy to experiment. It's always "snappier" to have a higher buad rate. Either way you can see the boot process and get an idea about what's going on. Whether that's helpful or not is another thing again.

What was kind of odd with my PMVS 4.1 is it wouldn't connect using any speed other than 9600. One would think that the slower speed of 1200 would work just fine, but all I got was garble at the lower speed. Very odd if you ask me!

FYI, all I see on the screen when the PMVS 4.1 boots up and the rs232 is connected is the results of the tests. I cannot remember what it says off-hand, but maybe I'll hook it up just for kicks and post it here for you fellas.
