How it works ?
It is using ipsec to connect to a vpn router

If you have the 4.x admin cd then you can find document in the folder Bins

If you want our opinion on the quality of the feature I would say it works well. Like any other VPN session it can occasionally drop and as with any VoIP conversation the quality of the voice is highly dependent on the quality of the network between the two locations.

We probably have several dozen locations with VPN Phones at this point and all are working well.

I second kholladay's assessment. It works great.

I personally have had a 5610SW IP Phone running the VPN image at my home office for over a year - and like it - works well. Remember to set your local router/gateway to allow your DHCP address to live for at least 5 days (for the phone). Otherwise you will be getting calls from remote workers that their phone reboots potentially during the work day.
