Hello, I am new.
My layout:
A Server running Windows 2000 Advanced Server Edition
A Client running Windows XP SP2.
A LAN used for testing the VPN.
A Modem-to-Server connection for testing Remote Access.
My success:
When running locally, I can create a VPN link to the server with my client computer through the LAN, using the IP address assigned by the router. I can also create a "Network Place" using the information about the shared folder that is located on the server. I can access these files with full privelages.
I can also access the "Network Place" without connecting the VPN. (I assume this is because I am still connected through the LAN.)
My failure:
When running the server directly to the Cable Modem (without the use of a router) and trying to connect to the shared folder remotely, it says that the folder can not be found; however, I can connect to the server via the VPN (I can verify the logon from both the Server and the Client.)
My question:
How can I get the VPN to share the selected folder over the VPN? Is there a simple setting I am missing? I know it can be shared (because of the LAN tests), and I know that the VPN is connecting. How can I fix this?
(P.S. the client computer still connects through a router. Could the router be blocking the "ping"?)
