Just installed the second site where I have noticed that IP Phones are extremely quiet for the remote caller.

I have two customers (one 403 and one 412) who have IP Phones on their LAN. When they are in a call, the remote caller is complaining that the volume of voice is very low. Internal calls to IP Phones and POTS are fine. Our switches are Layer 3 and support Q and P tagging.

We have played with Extn settings but to no avail.

I know IP Phones will have some differences, but my distributor setup a demo call for one of these customers and the voice clarity was fine, even over ADSL.

All firmware is June release V3.

I have a patch for this send me your email adress and I will send it to you, have the patch for the 403 and the 406

I have just received a report of the this problem with 64xx series phones on analog trunks.

Internal call are fine.

Firmware version is 3.0.44 on IP403

4602 and 5602.

4602 had problems on a 403 switch, and the 5602 phones had the issue on a 412 switch.

May not be the same problem but I am getting complaints on a 406(2.1.35) with DT phones and analog trunks, when calling out and cant be heard by called party.

I think it's a general problem of the analog trunks boards or a firmware related problem.
I really hope this can be fixed because several people I know have the same problem on anolog trunks.

Mine are both going over PRI E1 trunks, using VoIP phones. No analogue trunks here.

Looking forward to the patch off Jedi...

I had this problem with 4602SW phones on a small office V2.1(35), also tried them on 406 and 412. I was using G729a (8k) codec. It was that bad the customer resorted to using their mobiles to make calls! Avaya said the reason was that these were low end IP phones with no Auto Gain Control in them. Intrestingly enough I changed the codec to G711 (64k) - the difference this made was immense. Using this for 16 IP phones is OK bandwitch wise on a 100m LAN but obviously not for homeworkers with limited upload.

I guess what im trying to say is can I have the patch too please IPOJedi? ;-)

Hi ssumner, how do you have homeworkers connected to the IP Office??

I posted this a while ago. It seems the problems were addressed in the August build (3.0.59), which I guess includes the patch which IPOJedi mentionned.

actixit, i don't know if you are refering to the prob above or just asking a q?
The problem above was on a site using IP phones on a LAN. I didn't receive the patch off IPOJedi, but the customer is happy with G711 anyway. Recent installations seem to be OK using G729a so looks like Avaya have sorted this. Mind you we won't sell anything less than 4610's now:)

When I connect homeworkers, I generally do it by using Router to Router LT2P VPN's. Worked so far for me with no probs.

You can turn the gain up on the analog trunks but does distort.
