I followed the knowledgebase. I am trying to send e-mail alerts using an external smtp server. When I entered in my e-mail server settings I get no error when i push OK or CHECK. When I leave a test message on a user that has e-mail notify on it does not reach my e-mail. I see the following error in my windows 2003 application event log.

EasyMail SMTP error!
Server:eek:utgoing.verizon.net
01/24/08 13:44:18
503 5.5.0 No MAIL FROM command has been issued.

Is there a way to further customize VM to email settings so e-mail servers don't reject me?

Do you have an email adres set where you can send the email with ???

ACA - Implement IP Office
ACA - Voice Services Management

Are you using MS Exchange?

Install MSOffice on your 2003 Server and make sure you can receive and send e-mail as an Administrator on the VMPro server.

Try telnet <ip address> 25

from the voicemail pc - if you can connect and send mail you'll get a banner confirming connection.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Yes, I am sending mail with a server that requires authentication. The account is valid.

Not using exchange, it is an external smtp server.
I am able to connect to it through telnet.

Right click the 2 VMPro services choose properties and choose logontab

Change it to "Local systemaccount".

I think tlpeter is right. You have set not only the account but also an e-mail adress that should be used to reply to.
I think you are currently sending an e-mail using smtp without an 'from' e-mail adress set.

I understand what you are saying, where can I set this From address? I filled out everything in voicemail pro client and in control panel- voicemail pro.

setup outlook express, i don't think you can in VMPro.

I tried setting up the account in outlook and tested. Same error. The vm services are currently logged in as system account.

On the VMProServer goto start\control panel\IP Office Voicemail Pro.
In the first tab and set the e-mail adress under accountdetails.
In the second tab you already put in your smtp account.

If you have done that the following registrykey will be set accordingly:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Avaya\Media Services\Directories
EMailMailbox=yourenteredemailadress@yourdomain.com

Escorthosis - I don't have an exchange server. I was told I don't need one for basic voicemail to e-mail.
Those registry entries were empty however. If I put something in there it doesn't stay filled.

I don't have an exchange server as well!
To answer your question where to fill in the e-mail adress
I just installed the vmpro 4.1.27 on my XP pc at home.
I figure you pressed the 'apply' button before testing?

In the voicemailpro-client press F9 goto MAPI set e-mail protocol to SMTP instead of MAPI.

Restart the VMPro service as a precaution.

It isn't letting me add an account in the first tab. That should not have to do with voicemail to e-mail anyways. It is set to smtp. I restarted the service again to be sure. Same issue.

As I stated above I just installed VMPro 4.1.27 on my XP machine to answer your question.
I can manually type the e-mail adres press apply and test. It still is showing my test@avaya.com dummy e-mail adress.
So it's working over here but my PC is on the Dutch locale.
