406v2 on 4.1.95011 (patched last week to try and resolve issue)
VM Server on 4.1.27

Older site I had upgraded to a new 406v2(403 previously)

They have Voicemail Pro running on XP, that I recently changed over to 2K3 to try and fix this issue.

The issue is simple, after so long, could be 20 minutes, could be 1 day, the voicemail service is still started, but won't pickup. Callers will hear busy/dead-air.

This wasn't an issue until we upgraded them from a 403 and 3.0 to a 406v2 and 4.1

To fix the issue, I have to restart the Voicemail Pro Service. The licenses show valid. I have an incoming call route pointed to Voicemail to test, and when they are experiencing this issue, the call doesn't even show up in System Status.

Any ideas?

good thought, but it is directly connected.

i am trying to think logically why this would happen randomly, but restarting the service fixes it. bizarre

Where is your license server located?
Is it a serial/parallel/usb feature key style.

Is this locked down with in manager or broadcasting out?
Has this moved pc's as well as your vm install.

License Server is set to .40, when I changed VM Servers, I didn't move the parallel key as I am not on site. Just left the KeyServer on the XP box.

I would give it a try that is moving it onto another machine. Its one of the only things you have not done.

Maybe I am assuming something about you poblem that isn't true. Does ext 1926 ring and can be answered? Is everything working fine until the call forwards to VM?

I will see if there is another server with a parallel port. I know the 2k3 server was an HP rack mount server, and didn't have a parallel port on it. I will see if I can find someone that knows what one is first, and then see if we can get it and the keyserver moved over.

1926 Rings and can be answered yes. 1926 doesn't really have any relevance to the issue except that is the first call that went to VM after the connection was lost. I have other traces with the same information with another extension in it.

One thing that the server does have, along with every other VM server in our company is Symantec. I have stopped all Symantec services, and the problem still happens, but I just thought I'd throw that out there, because I know it will come up. My next step with that is to uninstall it completely, but I have about 12 other VM Servers with the same image on it, with no issues. But, just FYI.

I think the VM is fine. If you don't think it is corrupt database (really who can tell). The next thing I would check is an IP conflict. On one of the first IPOs I ever put in the customer added a linksys router or access point and it had DHCP turned on and it was givving out the IP address of the vm server. The system worked fine for 3 months and the I had 2 weeks of hell with the client swearing that nothing cahnged. Now the PC would show you if there was because you would get the Windows error message, but there is now way for the IPO to tell you. I would look into this. use Angry IP scanner or or something like that with the IPO am VM disconnected from the network.

I have exact same symptoms at two sites running 4.1. One is a fresh install on 500, with VM Pro running on XP Pro PC, the other is an upgrade from 3.2 on 406V2, with VM PRo running on Win2K3 Server.

Same as you... suddently, randmonly, voicemail plays dead air. No specific VM flow or user... Just after a few hours or a couple days, VM Pro starts playing dead air - services running, no errors - just dead air...have ports available, happens randomly, never have to reboot the switch - simply restarting VM Pro service fixes it. Have supplied traces to Avaya L3, and so far they have been unable to solve.

Well I'm not glad you are having the same issue, I am glad I'm not the only one this is happening to. I have installed/helped install hundreds of these things, and I have never seen something to random, other than software bugs. My next idea is to downgrade from 4.1 back to 4.0.

If you happen to hear something from Avaya on this, please post it. I don't have a ticket open yet. I haven't opened a ticket in about a year, but this is about 1 day away from it.

From what I'm hearing from Avaya L3, they don't have a fix for this yet, so if the new release comes out soon, it's not likely to have this bug fix in it...

jreingold

so, are they saying this is in fact a bug?

Just as an update.. I moved the VM Server from the 2K3 box, back over to the XP box last Saturday. This issue didn't show it's ugly head again until TODAY.. Worked all week until today.. Calls to VM went to dead air.. Restart the VM Service.. Fixed... [sadeyes]

It is a workaround but let it reboot every night automaticly
Maybe it will keep running for a while

I actually created a batch file that runs every morning at 5am to restart the service.. Did this a few weeks ago.. Thought it would be a poor mans fix, but I was wrong.

It is a poor fix :)

Setup an email alarm in the systemtab and then system events
You will get an email when the vmprto service is down

And if you know how to program you can make a program to respond on it and restart the services :)

It is a big workaround :)
