I'm having intermittent connection loss between IPO and the pc running VMPRO. I've checked and rechecked all of my network settings. It will work for a few hours and then stop working. Often a server restart will cause it to stop working. The licensing appears to be ok, as do the passwords. Thanks in advance for any help.

Does your PC do any thing silly like go into hybernate?
Is the processor maxing out at all running background services?

Nope, as far as i can tell, everything is fine on the server. I'm pretty good with servers (that's my field), it's just the phone system with which i'm inexperienced. The server is running other services without a problem. I assume i'm missing some obscure setting somewhere, as usual.

When voicemail "stops" what do you get when you try to access it? Silence or Busy?

If it is silence then the issue is most likely to be licence related (VMPro has a 2 hour "grace period" when it will work without a licence)

If it is busy it suggests an IP connection issue. Is the server directly connected to the IPO, or through a switch? Is the network card on the server set to autonegotiate speed and duplex (I usually nail them to 100M full duplex and connect directly to the IPO)

is your dongle icon red in the task bar? if your IPOffice and dongle are not communicating then you will get a few hours of voicemail before it ceases.

That's an excellent point, thank you. It is silence, and i have had issues with licensing. Currently, though, the dongle number appears correctly in the system tab and the licenses appear as valid. When i had issues with licensing before, i changed the license server IP from the specific ip address of the Lic server to 255.255.255.255 and it seemed to fix it. My IPO is connected via patch cable to another swich to which the server is connected.

What type of dongle is it?

If the USB type there is an updated driver on the manufaturers web site.

Also change the lic server back to the ip address. I think its best to fix the IP Address rather than it search your network for the key server.

It's Rainbow USB Superpro. Are the correct drivers from Sentinel? I installed a new x64 server here, with the intention of transferring the phone services to it. I had difficulty with the Feature Key Server after installing the drivers from safenet-inc.

That name rings a bell. Take a look on the site and update yuour drivers just in case.

Are the IPO applications installed on a x64 server?

This is not supported by Avaya - so you may run into issues.

I couldn't get Feature Key server to recognize the dongle, though the sentinel drivers worked, so i kept using the old server.

If the feature key server icon is red you do not need to update the drivers.

mattKnight,

Just wanted to thank you for your post. 2 days ago our voicemail server packed up. The system was set up long before I joined the company, so I was relying on old documentation and limited support online.

I spent hours trying to get a new unit setup to take its place, but it would not communicate with the phone system. I stumbled upon your post regarding mbps/full duplex, and up it went!

Thanks again!

Simon

Simon,

Thanks for the feedback!

That being said, the settings are dependant on the hardware in use (older system units use 100MB HALF duplex)

Simon,

I suspect you've found the answer to many of your future questions - there is a wealth of knowledge in these forums!

Yes, but read the manual aswell.

Controversial!

Well, now i understand why the server was plugged into the IPO when i arrived. I changed the setup because i wanted a gigabit backbone. I have a linksys 2024c switch, is there some way i can make this work?

leave the voicemail server straight in the ipoffice
it is the best thing to do
otherwise you could get some problems
