Hi,
I HAVE to install vfp6 sp5 on a new W7 PC. Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to do it.
vfp6 ist installed in C:\VFP6\VFP98...
sp5 is installed in C:\VFP6\VFP98\SP5
Tried to run it AS ADMINISTRATOR, in XPMODE, in RUN and even at DOT PROMPT - to no avail.
Any hint would be appreciated.
Thanks
Marc

Login as Admin and create the folder first?

Or, better still, turn off the UAC and then install it!

You try to run the setup or try to run VFP?
It IS installed or you still WANT TO install it and what's in the mentioned directories merely is the setups?
You get what error and/or behavior?

Bye, Olaf.

Hi,
Thanks and sorry for not being precise enough

VFP6 is INSTALLED in C:\VFP6\VFP98\

SP5 is UNZIPPED in C:\VFP6\VFP98\SP5\

I try to INSTALL SP5 (SETUPSP5.EXE) from there but no luck. Error message when run in Prompt "Program too large to fit into memory"

I'll give it a try with UAC turned off and report.

Marc

Hi again,

UAC is off - but failure again

what now?

Marc

Hi Marc

Can you clarify if you have VFP6 installed now?
and where your SP5 came from?

Actually I don't see a SP5 download there. Have a look at a recent thread about VFP6 SP5 here: thread184-1628604

You may get the right SP5 there, there are several different ones.

Bye, Olaf.

Hi,
I finally managed to install VFP6 + SP5 under W7
Steps:
1) Install VFP6 WITHOUT Msdn
2) Unzip SP5 into a folder e.g. c:\sp5
3) Open sp598ent.stf with Notepad
4) go to line 13
5) remove the first occurence of the number "36"
6) delete content of line 36
7) delete content of line 37
8) save
9) run setupsp5
Good luck
Marc

Ah yes, I remember there was such a fix in some text file needed for the SP5 to work, it was documented in a readme or on some online article from the VFP Team. I think that ahs nothing to do with Win7.

Such things are lost, if not documented at the time you needed them, but then I would have done so if I know I will stay with VFP6...

Bye, Olaf.

Hi Olaf,
No, it hasn't anything to do with W7, but since SP5 is looking for MDAC and doesn't find anything it fails to install.
