visual dbase bell 1

recently upgraded to xp from 98. Can Not get my bell chr(7)to work. worked fine under 98 ???? i realoly need it, i use it for dbuging. i'm using dbase 5.5
Also, can't get it to reconize long filenames???

glad to hear 5.5 works at all on XP as I have a machine
with Windows 2000 where I can't get 5.5 to function.

Re your bell question:
Have you tried using this command:

PLAY SOUND FILENAME C:\WINDOWS\MEDIA\CHIMES.WAV

You may have to use a different directory where your
.WAV files reside, but this works for me.

Re your problem with long filenames, I believe it has been
asked and answered elsewhere so try doing a keyword search.

Your play sound worked. still cant find any solution for long filenames. i did search, only thing i found was a suggestion i use short names. not really an answer.

16-bit VdB is restricted to 8.3 filenaming with the NT kernel. Keep in mind that O/S' in the near future will not handle 16-bit apps. So you may need to rework your future methodologies

Are you familiar with the new Intel/AMD processors? AMD handles 32/64-bit and the Intel one ONLY 64 bit. So dont be surprised when it happens.

Pls refer to your question.
The best answer to your question is the play sound filename command. You can try chord.wav. I used play sound filename chord.wav in my program.
