I have just installed vista on my pc. All was fine until I installed the graphics drivers for my 256mb ati 9800xt.

I rebooted the computer and the following message comes up:

Booting 'Windows Vista'

acpi
Vista Loader 2.12
Done!
fallback 1
find -- set - root /bootmgr

It stays on this message for a little while and then the screen flashes up this message for a few seconds:

Invalid boot.ini file
Booting from C:\Windows\

The screen then goes black.

I have tried getting into safe mode by pressing F8 but I never get the option to do this.

Also I have tried booting from the windows vista install disc to try a repair installation. This does not work, as when I boot from the cd; it says windows loading files. Then it ends up on a screen with a background and a mouse pointer but nothing else!

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Have you tried Last known good config? you should get the option from F8. seems that the drivers were not compatible with vista. if last known good config dont work get a boot disk and do a repair on the boot.ini. you can get boot disk from here

hope this was helpful

Sorry I wasn't clear. Pressing F8 while the computer boots up does nothing at all - I get no options so can't try last known config.

There is no vista boot disk on the site above. Is there anywhere else I could get one from?

u can use the xp boot or still see if you can do a repair from vista cd.
